Call for Applications: PhD Fellowships in Clinical Trials Research

The West African Network for TB, AIDS, and Malaria (WANETAM), through its TALENT Programme, invites applications for PhD fellowships supported by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) with funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), UK.

Purpose of the Fellowship

This fellowship aims to reduce gender and diversity gaps by supporting female PhD candidates from WANETAM member institutions across Africa. Eligible countries include Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Collaboration with European partner institutions in France, Germany, the UK, and Portugal will provide additional research opportunities.

If a selected candidate is not already based at a WANETAM member institution, affiliation will be arranged prior to commencement.

Who Should Apply?

Applications are encouraged from Master’s graduates, particularly those who have completed their training under EDCTP or Africa CDC EPI-Biostat projects funded by the 2020 DHSC call for Capacity Development in Disease Outbreak and Epidemic Response in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Fellowship Benefits

Monthly stipend of €800

Start date: Early 2025
Programme Coordination
The fellowship is managed by the TALENT Programme Steering Committee, coordinated by Prof. Dorothy Yeboah (Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana). WANETAM is led by Prof. Souleymane Mboup (RARS/IRESSEF, Senegal) with Deputy Coordinator Prof. Assan Jaye overseeing Researcher Development Programming.
