The Wellcome Sanger Institute offers two main PhD programmes—the 4-year PhD Programme and the Clinical PhD Programme—both in collaboration with the University of Cambridge.
For the 2026 intake:
The 4-year PhD Programme closes on Thursday, 27 November 2025.
The Clinical PhD Programme closes on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
The Institute is a world leader in genomics research, focusing on areas like Human Genetics, Cancer, Parasites, and Cellular Genomics. Students benefit from exceptional large-scale facilities and are registered at the University of Cambridge, becoming members of a College.
The Institute will also host an online Q&A session on Wednesday, 5 November 2025 at 10:00-10:45 GMT as part of the University of Cambridge Virtual Postgraduate Open Days.
