The Department of Biology at the United Arab Emirates University (Al Ain, UAE) is inviting applications for a full-time, two-year Postdoctoral Fellow position. The successful candidate will join a project investigating soil-plant-microbial interactions in hyper-arid environments using metabarcoding and metagenomics approaches, with the goal of assessing how ongoing climate change is affecting these tripartite ecological relationships.

Key responsibilities

1. Conduct fieldwork (soil and root sample collection) in an arid environment
2. Process samples through biochemical and molecular lab work
3. Carry out bioinformatic and statistical analysis of genomic datasets
4. Publish findings in peer-reviewed manuscripts in a timely manner
5. Assist in supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students

Who should apply

1. PhD in biology, ecology, microbiology, bioinformatics, or a related field

An added advantage

1. Experience in eDNA analyses and NGS library preparation
2. Bioinformatic and statistical analysis of large genomic datasets (metabarcoding/metagenomics) using R
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
4. Strong collaborative and networking abilities
