Are you leading a research team in biochemistry, molecular biology, or biotechnology with an interest in the mysteries of the brain?
The Lundbeck Foundation (Lundbeckfonden) has officially opened its 2026 call for LF Collaborative Projects. This is a premier opportunity for Kenyan scientists and BBPSK professionals to engage in high-impact, international neuroscience research through strategic partnerships with European institutions.
The goal of this program is to foster groundbreaking interdisciplinary research that addresses brain-related topics. The foundation is looking for projects that create synergies—bridging the gap between neuroscience and other fields (like biotechnology and bioinformatics) or connecting different disciplines within neuroscience.
Grants are awarded for a five-year period in two categories:
Small/Medium: Up to DKK 20 million (~KES 370M)
Large: Up to DKK 40 million (~KES 740M)
While the Principal Investigator (PI) must be affiliated with a European institution, the Lundbeck Foundation actively encourages international collaboration:
Co-PI Eligibility: Co-PIs can be from any country in the world, including Kenya.
Collaboration Requirement: If the PI is based outside of Denmark (but within Europe), the project must include at least one Danish co-PI.
** Kenyan Inclusion:** BBPSK members can serve as Co-PIs, contributing expertise in biotechnology, molecular mechanisms, or clinical research to these international consortia.
Internationally Recognized Leaders: You and your collaborators should have a track record of significant research achievements over the last 10 years.
Tenured Professionals: Both PIs and Co-PIs must hold tenure.
Interdisciplinary Teams: The call favors "integrated and collaborative efforts" between different disciplines—for example, a basic researcher in biochemistry working alongside a clinical neurologist.
Deadline for Expression of Interest: January 9, 2026 (13:00 Danish Time)
Decision on Step 2: March 2026
Deadline for Full Application: June 2026
Final Decision: November 2026
Expressions of Interest must be submitted in English via the Lundbeck Foundation’s application system (LANAS).
BBPSK Recommendation: We encourage our members to leverage their international networks to find European partners. This is a chance to put Kenyan biotechnology on the global map of brain research.
